We begin our journey to Bursa by bus, departing from the designated points in the early morning hours. After breakfast on the way, we arrive in Bursa, which came under Turkish rule in 1326 by Orhan Bey and served as the capital of the Ottoman State for a period. Our first stop in this beautiful city, built on the slopes of Uludağ, known as the Olympus of Mysia with an elevation of 2,543 meters, is the Grand Mosque, accepted as Turkey’s largest mosque. Construction of the building, commissioned by Ottoman Sultan Yıldırım Bayezit, began in 1396 and was completed in 1399. The mosque has a total of 20 domes rising on octagonal drums and has two minarets. In the Grand Mosque, where striking motifs and decorations are found on the interior walls and minbar, there are accounts that Hızır a.s performed prayers here.
Another special detail that draws visitors’ attention is the section on the eastern façade of the Bursa Grand Mosque minbar where the solar system is depicted. The presence of such knowledge from centuries ago in the mosque amazes those who visit it. Then we move on to the Tophane district and visit the tombs of Osman Bey and Orhan Bey, the founder of the Ottoman State. After photographing the 6-story, 25-meter-high clock tower completed in 1906, we have our lunch. Afterwards, we head toward Uludağ, the highest mountain in the Marmara Region. Following the break given for free time and rest in the hotels area, we begin our return journey later in the day. We return to Istanbul in the evening via the Bursa Gemlik Orhangazi Yalova Topçular ferry and Gebze route, and bid farewell to our valued guests, hoping to see you again on our next tour.
