Efes Tour (Day Trip)
Turkey's most famous and most visited historical site,
Early morning flight to Izmir. Before reaching Ephesus, you leave behind colorful cities and pass through lush green areas, with your first stop being the House of Virgin Mary, which is approximately 25 minutes away. According to dominant Christian tradition, Mary was brought to Ephesus by the Apostle John after the Resurrection of Jesus and lived her days there. This is primarily based on the traditional belief, supported by the biblical statement (John 19:26-27) that John came to Ephesus and that Jesus entrusted him with Mary's care.
After visiting the House of Virgin Mary, you will proceed to the ancient city of Ephesus and begin your walking tour. The walking tour will take you to one of the most magnificent excavations in the world. Odeon, the Trajan Fountain, the baths of Scholastica, the Temple of Hadrian, and the impressive Library of Ephesus. The library is adorned with columns and sculptures. The Great Theater, where Saint Paul preached, is the largest theater of the ancient period with a capacity of 24,000 seats. The Arcadian Way, once used in parades by Mark Antony and Cleopatra.
Visiting the Ephesus Open-Air Museum takes about 2 hours. After the Lunch Break, the next stop on your tour is the Temple of Artemis (Diana), considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, built in honor of the Greek goddess of hunting, wildlife, and fertility. It was the largest marble temple in the ancient Greek world, four times larger than the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. The temple served as both a marketplace and a religious institution. The offerings presented by thousands of pilgrims each year enriched the temple to such an extent that it became the world's first bank. Today, only small remnants of this magnificent structure remain.
