Byzantine and Ottoman Monuments Tour (Full Day)
Duration 8 Hour
Turkey's Most Famous and Most Visited Historical Site,
An early flight to Izmir. Before reaching Ephesus, you pass through colorful towns and lush areas, and your first stop will be the House of Virgin Mary, which is about 25 minutes away. According to prevailing Christian tradition, Mary was brought to Ephesus by the Apostle John after Jesus' Resurrection and lived out her days there. This is primarily based on the traditional belief, which is supported by the biblical statement that John came to Ephesus and that Jesus entrusted her care to John (John 19:26-27).
After visiting the House of Virgin Mary, you proceed to the Ancient City of Ephesus and start your walking tour. The walking tour will take you to one of the world's most magnificent excavations. The Odeon, the Trajan Fountain, the baths of Scholastica, the Temple of Hadrian, and the impressive Ephesus Library. The library is adorned with columns and statues. The Great Theater, where Saint Paul preached, is the largest theater of the ancient period with a capacity of 24,000 seats. The Arcadian Way, which was once used by Mark Anthony and Cleopatra during a procession.
The visit to the Ephesus Open-Air Museum lasts about 2 hours. After a lunch break, the next stop on your tour is the Temple of Artemis (Diana), considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, built in honor of the Greek goddess of hunting, wildlife, and fertility. It was the largest marble temple in the ancient Greek world, four times larger than the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. The temple served both as a marketplace and a religious institution. Offerings made by thousands of pilgrims each year enriched the temple to such an extent that it became the world's first bank. Today, only small ruins of this magnificent structure remain.
